The whites were the ones who were fighting against the Bolshevik-controlled Red Army during the russian civil war. Unlike the red army, whites did not have a single shared ideology but were divided into several disorganized and not very cohesive groups and it was precisely for this reason that they lost the war also because of the little popular support they managed to earn. This anti-bolshevik army was formed in mid-1918 and were known as "whites" a generic term that described any group opposed to Lenin and his government. They wanted to restore the monarchy with the support of western countries but they ended up being defeated by the army created by trotsky.Trotsky (Federico Falciani 5AL)

The Red Army (called also Red Army of the Workers and Peasants) was the Russian armed forces after the disintegration of the Tsarist forces in 1917.
Itit was formed by Trotsky who wanted to try to stop the civil war and also to stop the armies of foreign countries that wanted to repress the communism and revolution in Russia.
Trotsky and his red army defeated the white army.
The adjective "red" refers to the traditional color of the socialist and communist movement. The Red Army became the USSR army when the state was founded in 1922. The Red Army, led by Stalin with the collaboration of various generals, performed a decisive function during the Second World War by defeating the great majority of the forces of Nazi Germany and conquering Berlin and Vienna. In 1946 the name  Red Army was officially changed to " Soviet Army" (Serena Modola,5AL.)
